The Strand Book Store

The Strand Book Store

Opened in 1923, the Strand book store, or the Strand is an exceptional institution and a real landmark. And, of course, it is a real heaven on earth for all booklovers. But even those who are not fond of reading will be impressed by the amazing book collection, which counts more than 2.5 million titles, and covers any genres, topics, and themes one could ever imagine. After all, it's a great place to wander. Make a point of going all the way to the top floor to look at the rare books, some of which are first editions and are protected in glass cases.

Besides the books, the store also offers a wide array of literary gifts and goods from Moleskines to coffee mugs, and everything in-between, "from a Shakespeare insult mug to the wildly popular Strand onesie" according to the official website.

And if you purchase a $250 gift card, you will be able to go on a private guided tour of The Strand’s Rare Book Room where you will be able to see the hidden gems of The Strand, such as James Joyce’s Ulysses as illustrated by Matisse and a commentary on the Psalms printed in 1480.
